Around 150 individuals, encompassing both the elderly, young adults, and children, recently experienced the benefits of a comprehensive eye and medical screening organized by ASA Savings and Loans at Tema Newtown’s Mac Hotel.

The screening encompassed eye examinations and tests for prevalent health concerns like malaria, hepatitis B, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. ASA’s commitment to these annual events across its business centers and branches nationwide reflects its dedication to corporate social responsibility.

During the screening overseen by Medical Doctor Akugri Abdul Rahaman from Modern Care Clinic, several eye-related issues were identified among participants, alongside positive cases of malaria and hepatitis B among a few. Statistics revealed 6 malaria cases (4.08%), 2 cases of hepatitis B, 11 individuals with elevated blood sugar levels (7.48%), and 35 showing high blood pressure, marking a 23.6% hypertensive rate.

Furthermore, 12 people experienced eye allergy conjunctivitis (8.16%), but reassuringly, 81% of the screened individuals were deemed healthy. Necessary medications were provided, and those requiring critical attention were referred for specialized treatment.

Dr. Abdul Rahaman emphasized the importance of using insecticide-treated nets for malaria prevention and urged prompt medical attention when feeling unwell. Free medication was distributed as per the diagnosed ailments, emphasizing a holistic approach to healthcare.

Participants were encouraged to prioritize exercise, consume balanced diets, and increase their intake of fruits and water to fortify their immune systems.

Supervising the event, ASA’s Area Manager, Justice Korsah, expressed delight at the turnout, assuring continued support from the company. Patience Gagla, the Branch Director of Tema Newtown Business Center, urged regular health check-ups for participants to stay informed about their health status.
